Interreg III-A Project
Study and Documentation Centre for the History of the Czech and Slovak Minorities at Vienna

Interreg III A-Project
Austria - Czech Republic

Project goals:

The Research Centre for the History of Minorities (FZHM) has the objective of safeguarding and preserving the historical collections of the Czech and Slovak minorities in Vienna, which have had a lasting influence on the cultural tradition of the city. Archives are to be established at the 5th district of Vienna to house the valuable libraries and documents and make them available to the public for purposes of research and education.

With support from the Department of Slavonic Studies of the University of Vienna, the Cultural Club of Czechs and Slovaks, Vienna, and the Academy of Sciences, Brno, the Research Centre is to become a platform for international research, educational institutions and cultural initiatives interested in both historical and present day issues of ethnic minorities and their integration. Public awareness and knowledge of migratory movements, and subsequent changes in and around Vienna, are to be enhanced in order to dismantle the "barriers of the mind" among the inhabitants of this region.

The exhibition Česká Vídeň - Tschechisches Wien was organised within the framework of the project.
