Karl V. Matal

Graduate of the Komenský School, Vienna. Free-lance journalist after the War. 1946-1954 "Bohemica Viennensia“, published by himself: studies of the history of Czechoslovakia and the Czech minority in Vienna. 1949-1956 head of the Archives of the Austrian Trade Union Federation (Österreichischer Gewerkschaftsbund, ÖGB). 1956-1974 Director of the Vienna Office of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU). 1975-1988 Secretary of the International Section of the ÖGB. Founding member of the Vienna Association for Issues of Ethnic Groups (Wiener Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Volksgruppenfragen). Board member of the Austrian League of Human Rights. Long-standing collaboration with several associations concerned with the Czech minority: Vice-Chairman of the Minority Council and the "Czech Heart". Chairman of the Czech Social Democratic Party and the „Máj“ association. Numerous publications about the Czech minority and other subjects, e.g. "Die tschechoslowakischen Gewerkschaften 1870-1970“ (Brussels 1979).
